HERMAN MILLEREAMES CHAIR OVERVIEW 1955/1956

This iconic Herman Miller trade catalogue is a gem. It´s packed with furniture designed by Ray and Charles Eames, George Nelson and others. Here you will find names of many of the furniture from the firm.

The name of this catalogue is The Herman Miller Collection. It was originally printed in 1955 and with price list from april 1956. Among international furniture trade catalogues from the time this is one of the most sought after. It is more than 180 pages and includes many types of furniture, such as seating and storage.

Now someone might ask why I have come to a point where I publish stuff that is not Scandinavian. The reason is very simple. After World War II many Norwegian designers was inspired by Ray and Charles Eames, among them Grete Prytz Kittelsen, Arne Korsmo, Torbjørn Afdal, Gerhard Berg and many others. It was also a lot of collaborations between USA and Scandinavia. Through the last years I have done some research on this topic, and I can tell you it´s very interesting.

This section of the catalogue is with an overview of The Eameses chairs.  They all had a huge impact on designers around the world. Here you will find the original model names and easily see the differences between one and an other. There is also an overview of the fabrics to the chairs, all designed by Alexander Girard.

If this article is shared a lot I´m thinking of publish more sections from the catalogue. The reason is I want more people to get to know the heritage of Norwegian design and arts and crafts. All the best, Mats.
